Legion - Secret Lives - Perry Kent

I don't really know much about Legion, but I thought the prompt of an erratically powered psychic ending up in a mental ward was interesting. Here is my crack at it.

Panel 1

Interior, day. A stark white room with David sitting across a small table from a male psychiatrist. The psychiatrist is dressed in a gray sweater and has a distinctive mole on his face. The psychiatrist writes on a clipboard while staring at David.

1. PSYCHIATRIST: How are you feeling today, David?

Panel 2

Dark, exterior. The panel edges are fuzzy, indicating a vision. The psychiatrist's face is twisted in a grotesque snarl of aggression. He stands over another man in an alleyway, blood dripping from his fist.

2. PSYCHIATRIST: You dare come near my woman?

3. PSYCHIATRIST: You want to fuckin' mess with me? Is that what you want?

Panel 3

Interior, day. Back in the white room, David looks over at the psychiatrist (out of the panel) with wide-eyed fear. This panel and the next should have similar poses.

4. DAVID (quietly): No.

5. PSYCHIATRIST: What--

Panel 4

Dark, exterior. The panel edges are fuzzy. A man's pulverized face stares out of the panel in terror as the psychiatrist grabs ahold of his shirt.

6. PSYCHATRIST (op): I'm gonna rip you apart you little bitch. Your face is gonna be hamburger!

Panel 5

Interior, day. David leaps away from the table shouting in fear as he covers his face.

7. DAVID (shouting): Please no! Get away! Get away!

8. PSYCHIATRIST (OP): I need some orderlies in here, now!

Page Turn - A Villainous Plot Begins - Perry Kent

For this one I decided to do the page that would precede my page from last week. This is a Batman Beyond story.

Panel 1
Exterior, night, futuristic Gotham city museum. The museum doors are hanging wide open and a red siren is blaring over the doorway.

1. SFX (siren):    RRRRRRRRrrrrrriiiiinnnnnngggg!

Panel 2
Batman (Terry McGinnis), lands in front of the museum doors. The doors are hanging wide open and red siren is still going off over the doors.

2. SFX (siren):    RRRRRRRRrrrrrriiiiinnnnnngggg!

Panel 3
Batman’s leg crosses a green beam as he steps into the museum.

3. SFX (digital): beep

Panel 4
Electric darts fly out from the sides of the doors toward Batman from hidden places.

[NO COPY]

Panel 5
Batman arches back in pain as electricity shocks him through his suit.

4. SFX: ssssshhhhzzzzzz!

5. BATMAN: AAAaaahhhh!

Panel 6
Batman lays on the ground unconscious. A tactical boot stands close to his head, but you can't see the rest of the owner of the boot.

6. BOOT-OWNER: That was shockingly easy.

Batman Beyond - Past Crimes, Present Punishments - Perry Kent

Panel 1
Interior, dim, warehouse. A single lamp illuminates Terry in full bat-suit, sitting in a chair with his head slumped forward and his arms secured behind the chair. Terry groans as he wakens.

1. BATMAN:    Uhhh… What the hell just happened. I think I got knocked--

Panel 2
Terry strains to pull his wrists apart, but they are fastened together with some futuristic looking cuffs at the wrist. They are secured together behind the chair.

2. BATMAN: What the hell?

3. BATMAN: My wrists.

Panel 3
Terry tries to stand awkwardly with the chair being lifted with him as he looks around.

4. BATMAN: And my gizmos aren't responding...

5. BATMAN (hushed): Big B, you there?

Panel 4
A baseball bat slams into Terry’s gut, knocking him back down into the chair. The villain is not yet revealed, but she is wearing tactical gloves.

6. IRON-WOMAN (OP): Sit down!

Panel 5
Reveal of our villain. A shorter woman, in tactical gear with a mask that looks like it is made of iron. She steps into the light, baseball bat in hand.

7. IRON-WOMAN: You’re not leaving yet. Not before I tell you the tale of a lowly henchman, whose life you destroyed 20 years ago.

8. IRON-WOMAN: And his poor daughter who was left to rot.

Invader Zim - An Elderly Bookie - Perry Kent

Panel 1
Interior, day, library. Zim, in his human suit, drops a book onto the counter of a library checkout station. An ancient librarian looks down at him from across her desk.

1. ZIM: I wish to obtain this horribly obsolete information storage device.

Panel 2
Librarian stares at him with an overly sweet demeanor.

2. LIBRARIAN: And do you have your library card?

3. ZIM: What? A "card"? No, I don't have a "card".

Panel 3
The librarian starts ranting with a raged expression and anger in her eyes.

4. LIBRARIAN: Oh, you're one of those punks that thinks they can just take a precious book. No! Not on my watch. I'm the watcher, the keeper, the protector of books and until you've proven yourself worthy to be entrusted with this tomb of knowledge I say: Nay!

Panel 4
Zim looks taken aback like he was not expecting such a firey response from such an elderly lady.

5. ZIM: Uh...right. How do I get one of these cards? Do I have to pass a series of tests or prove myself in battle?

Panel 5
The librarian drops a thick stack of paper onto the counter, next to the book Zim wants to borrow. It is bigger than the book itself. Zim's eyes are wide and surprised.

6. LIBRARIAN: Simply fill out this paper. In triplicate.

Discovery - The Hedge Less Traveled - Perry Kent

Dedicated to those who spent time looking through dusty attics and dirty bushes to find their own entrance to a land of magic.

Panel 1
Exterior, dull gray daylight, a city park. Michael, a ten year old boy, wiggles his legs from under a grand hedge as he looks for a ball among the foliage. Bernice, a ten year old girl, crosses her arms and rolls her eyes in irritation as she stands next to him. The light around them is a dull gray of an overcast day.

1. BERNICE: Haven't you found the ball yet? I don't want to lose another ball in this park.

2. MICHAEL: You could help me. You kicked it in here!

Panel 2
Interior of the hedge, dark. Michael and Bernice crawl through the wooden limbs and twigs of the underside of the bushes. They are searching for a ball.

3. BERNICE: These bushes seem really big for a city park. We've been crawling for a while.

4. MICHAEL: Yeah... Maybe our ball rolled through. I think I see the other side.

Panel 3
Exterior, bright and sunny daylight, park. Michael stands, shielding his eyes from bright sunshine, with a look of awe on his face as he stands infront of this side of the hedges. Bernice crawls from under the hedge, but hasn't looked up yet. The light around them is a brightness of a warm sunny day.

5. BERNICE: Do you see the ball?

Panel 4
A bustle of magical revelry fills a large open grassy field. A tiger-woman struts through the park. A man hovers a large ring of balls in a tight orbit above his head, as though with his mind. A man balances upside down on two fingers, on top of a stack of rocks. A woman twists flames in the sky like a ribbon.

[NO COPY]

Panel 5
Bernice and Michael stand in slack-jawed awe of the magical park that they've discovered.

6. BERNICE: Did...did you know this was here?

7. MICHAEL: No.

Christmas Stories - The Dark Claus - Perry Kent

Panel 1
Exterior, night. Batman slips out of a window and onto a roof in the dead of night. There is a blanket of snow lying across the roof. A few more windows can be seen.

[NO COPY]

Panel 2
A light flicks on in one of the windows as Batman creeps away along the roof.

1. YOUTH #1 (lit up window): Hey, did anyone hear anything?

Panel 3
Batman launches a grappling hook as more windows light up from the inside, spilling their light onto the snowy rooftop.

2. YOUTH #2 (window): Whoa! Look at all the presents under the tree!

3. YOUTH #3 (window): Those weren't there earlier.

4. YOUTH #3 (window): Would you shut up and let us sleep.

5. SFX (grappling hook): Pssh!

Panel 4
Batman swings past a banner using his grappling hook. The banner reads "Saint Pancras Youth Home" and a smaller sign under that says "Sponsored by the Wayne Foundation".

Sidekicks - Lucky Bird - Perry Kent

Panel 1
Interior, night. Damian Wayne, in the Robin outfit, assumes a fighting stance. Ringing him are five unsavory types in clown makeup and ratty clown costumes. Some of the villains have knifes and one behind Damian has a pipe. They are in a warehouse filled with boxes.

1. DAMIAN: I'm sick of you clowns. But I'll ask again: where's your boss?

Panel 2
A pipe smacks Damian in the back of the head, knocking him forward.

2. SFX (pipe): CRACK!

Panel 3
Note: The art should be doubled and offset, as though Damian has severe double vision.
Damian lurches around avoiding a swing from a villian. A dark, unseen figure (Batgirl) pulls two villians out of the panel.

[NO COPY]

Panel 4
Note: The art should still be doubled and offset, but less than the last panel.
Damian smacks one of the villians in the face with a haphard punch. A dark, unseen figure (Batgirl) kicks another guy in the background.

3. SFX (punch): SMACK!

Panel 5
Note: His vision is mostly clear, but there should be some double-vision doubling still.
A figure in a dark cape (Batgirl) walks towards Damian, though the figure is still mostly cloaked in shadows. The reader should be lead to believe that this is Batman, come to rescue Damian.

4. DAMIAN: I know... You told me not to go after them alone. But I had to.

Panel 6
Note: His vision is totally clear now.
Batgirl steps into the light of the warehouse, revealing that it was not who Damian thought. Damian looks surprised to see her.

5. BATGIRL: Not listening to the big guy, huh? Been there.

6. BATGIRL: Next time, try a bit more more stealth. Less likely to get suckered by a pipe.

Musicals - Wicked and Divine: Dancing Through Life - Perry Kent

I decided to do something a little strange by taking a song from the musical Wicked and matching it with one of the characters from the comic Wicked + Divine.

Panel 1
Exterior, night, outside of a warehouse. Dionysus leans against the wall of a warehouse as he smokes a cigarette. A fangirl gushes just a few feet away from him. Dionysus is fully tricked out in his glowing godly status.

1. FANGIRL: OMG! Dionysus! You’re my total faves!

2. FANGIRL: I use to be so caught up in school--

Panel 2
Dionysus flicks his cigarette away, with a wide smile on his face.

3. DIONYSUS (sing): The trouble with schools is, they always try to teach the wrong lesson

4. DIONYSUS (sing): Believe me, I’ve been kicked out of enough of them to know

Panel 3
Dionysus twirls the fangirl, their hands joined together. The fangirl throws her head back in joy.

5. DIONYSUS (sing): They want you to become less callow

6. DIONYSUS (sing): Less shallow

Panel 4
Dionysus throws open the door of the warehouse, revealing a party raging within. The fangirl looks like she is about to melt with joy.

7. DIONYSUS (sing): But I say: Why invite stress in?

8. DIONYSUS (sing): Stop studying strife, and learn to live the unexamined life

Panel 5
Dionysus beckons the fangirl (and reader) to follow him into the dancing crowd of people inside of the warehouse.

9. DIONYSUS: by...

10. DIONYSUS (sing): ...Dancing through life!
